Mike grew up in the aviation industry. As the son of a highly respected helicopter operator in Canada, aviation was a constant presence from an early age. Exposure to flight operations, maintenance environments, and the realities of running an aviation business shaped his understanding of the industry and instilled a deep respect for the people who operate within it.

Mike brings nearly two decades of experience in aviation insurance to DF Steer. He has held senior roles with global brokerage firms including Aon, Marsh, and Willis Towers Watson, where he focused on complex aviation risks across commercial fixed wing, rotary wing, airline, and international programs. His work has included extensive engagement with London markets and the structuring and administration of Canadian and international aviation placements.

After many years within large multinational brokerages, Mike chose to join DF Steer as a Partner to continue an entrepreneurial path rooted in aviation. He works closely alongside the firm’s President and Co-Founders, contributing directly to client strategy, market engagement, and the long-term growth of the business. His experience, judgment, and market relationships make him an integral member of the DF Steer leadership team.

Mike holds a Master of Business Administration with a focus on international business and a bachelor’s degree in business management. He lives in Calgary with his wife and young son. Building a family has become a defining priority for Mike, grounding his work and reinforcing his long-term commitment to the firm, its clients, and the industry. Outside of work, he enjoys skiing, golfing, and fly fishing.
